Oh That Happened At The Cabin

Have you ever been around a group of friends that went somewhere together and all they talk about was what happened at the place they went, telling all these inside jokes that only they knew about? I was finally apart of that group.

To continue my birthday celebrations we invited a group of friends to go up to Gordon's family cabin. Originally we were going to just have a campfire, enjoy some yummy food, and hang out. But then we realized that we didn't have to end the night there, we could make it an overnight celebration. Not everyone could stay the night, mostly because it was such short notice when we decided this. None the less, it was fun with those that were able to stay.

I didn't want the regular camping food: hot dogs, smores, etc. Because we were celebrating my birthday, I wanted to have something especially delicious...dutch oven! My good friend Karly Ivie is an amazing cook. When she offered to take over the food part of the evening I was so excited and relieved (Gordon and I had never made dutch oven food before...who knows how it would have turned out). She put a lot of work into our delicious dinner...and even more into my birthday cake! I am so thankful I have such a good friend that would go through all of this trouble for me.

We had high hopes for the cabin night. We brought games, movies, treats. But it was late once we everyone else left and we were tired (especially in my old age...I'm a quarter of a century you know). We retired much earlier than I would have in my younger years, and woke up a lot earlier too. My other good friend, Jennifer Holbrook, made us all breakfast. German pancakes...YUMMY! Again, I can't help but say how thankful I am for such great friends. Jennifer was so sweet to wake up before any of us to make breakfast. What a birthday treat to wake up to the smell of buttery pancakes.

I was so excited to go to church later that day to talk about all the things we did at the cabin and use the phrase "Oh that happened at the cabin" and "Remember when...at the cabin" and any other phrase I could mention the cabin in. But once we were all at church I forgot I was going to do that. I guess that's a good thing...I always hate being around that group when they start telling stories that I have no idea what their talking about or think any of it is funny.
