we had a saturday at home! we love our little getaways but a weekend at home was needed to catch up on laundry and other household responsibilities. as saturday drew to a close, we got cabin fever. so a drive up the canyon we took! we were a little risky and didn't even put the dogs in their kennels. crazy, i know. they loved it. head out the window the entire time and everything. and the sunset after the rainstorm that we got to see was breathtaking. utah is rad.
more exploring of the land around goblin valley, utah.
^^we decided to take the trail less traveled to wild horse window. off into the desert we went!
^^some beautiful little flowers growing in between the cracks of the smooth desert rocks.
^^after wondering if we were on the right path, we saw a glimpse of the window. we weren't lost in the desert after all.
^^so incredible!
^^i love my cuddle time with briggs. it doesn't happen very often.
^^abbi found the perfect spot to rest on big matt.
^^where he wanted to eat lunch...
^^exploring the mining area.
^^pictographs
^^and now on to the next adventure...goblin's lair.
^^just a steep rocky trail to the lair...no big deal.
^^the cool temperature from the liar was so refreshing after walking through the dessert for a couple of miles.
^^my man went first, you know to make sure it was safe and to check for goblins.
^^totally awesome!
^^and then after our fun day of cave adventures we came back to camp to a wind tossed, ripped up tent. EVERYTHING inside was covered in sand. the tiredness (and nonstop wind!) got the best of me and i made the decision to pack up and go home. our adventure ended a day early, but we still had a blast regardless. we also felt like failures...true adventurers would have stuck it out and ate a sand-filled dinner and slept in a sandy wind tossed all night tent. i'm just not there yet, i guess.
camping adventure with gordon's brother & his wife, jenny (& our dogs!)
^^"I think it’s a rule that all good adventure trips start off by looking for a remote camp site in an unfamiliar area after dark…" direct quote from the mister. and our adventure started off just like that.
^^our campsite turned out to be pretty great once we could see it in the daylight. a nice little tucked away cove.
^^camping is so great. gordon does all of the cooking!
^^good morning matt.
^^we started off our hiking adventures with an eight mile hike in and out of slot canyons in little wildhorse canyon.
^^even though he'd been looking at maps of this area for months, he made sure one more time he knew where we were going.
^^desert trees are my favorite.
^^beautiful scenery all the way through. love those red rocks!
^^things got a little wet, so we put the dogs in our packs and trekked on. briggs loved being in the pack. abbi wasn't as keen on the idea, but went with it once she saw the water.
^^it was easier to carry her sometimes than have her swim.
^^we got this (although i was shaking like crazy because i was so nervous. everyone else is like a foot taller than me and made it look so easy!)
^^down we go!
^^brothers.
^^by far the tiniest dog down there. don't let her size fool you. she did amazing!
^^briggs did great too. all ten years of him.
^^we had plans to go hike around goblin valley, but after our long hike all we wanted to do was leisurely stroll around and take photos.
^^boys...
^^okay matt, we get it. (i would be lying if i said i didn't laugh every time he did this)
^^now that's a colorfully delicious camping meal.
^^and we ended our first night around the camp fire planning our next day's adventures...
