Gordon has been so excited for his sister, Melanie, to have her baby. This is unusual for Gordon. He isn’t that “into” babies…he thinks they all look alike and do the same thing: eat, slobber, poop. But this is the first baby that he knows that he actually has a connection to and he has been nothing but thrilled since the day she announced her pregnancy. So when he got word Friday afternoon that Mel was at the hospital he was prepared to drop everything and go straight to the hospital. What a cutie! When he told his mom she said he wasn’t needed at the hospital until the baby’s arrival. He was a little disappointed but continued waiting anxiously until we received word the baby was here. At 2:30 am Saturday November 22 we received a text message from Kim (Gordon’s dad) letting us know that baby was born and everyone was doing well. Relief and excitement filled us both. We both woke up early that Saturday in preparation to go meet this little angel. We didn’t know the sex of the baby because Mel and Justin decided they would wait until the birth so that enhanced our excitement. We did a few things around the house (exercise, clean up, homework, feed the dogs, etc.) and then headed off to meet baby. We didn’t know the address of the hospital Mel was at so we text messaged Kim to get the information. We received more information that we had asked. Kim told us that Mel had boy and his name was Hyrum Scott (Hyrum was Gordon’s great grandpa’s name, and Scott is Justin’s dad’s name). “I knew it!” I yelled! Jodi and I always said she would have a boy…mostly because she wouldn’t tell us the name they had picked out if the baby was a boy, the girl name she shared so we wanted her to have a boy so we could know the secret name. With the new information we couldn’t help ourselves from stopping at Baby Gap and buying little Hyrum something (mostly I couldn’t help myself…I remembered that Mel said she wanted real clothes once the baby was born). We bought him the cutest little corduroy pants and long sleeve stripped t-shirt to match. Pretty adorable (Mel seemed to like the real pants).
We finally arrived at the hospital. It was such a special time meeting Hyrum. He was sent right from heaven. He has such a sweet glow about him. He was sleeping the entire time we were there and wouldn’t wake up for anything! At first, Gordon was reserved about holding him. I usually am, but I’m becoming more and more comfortable with babies and holding them so I jumped on my chance to hold him. Hyrum is the first baby Gordon has ever held! It was like handing a baby to child…Gordon sat in his own chair with armrests for support and Jodi placed Hyrum in his arms. He was very careful while holding him making sure not to really move or do much of anything but hold Hyrum close. He looked adorable holding him. After a minute or two Gordon loosened up a bit. We opened up his blanket and looked at his cute little toes and legs. His pinky toes curls right under all of the other toes. This worried Gordon because he thought once he started walking he would walk right on it. What a funny guy. Once Kim arrived, Gordon gave Hyrum to his Grandpa to hold for the first time.
Such precious moments took place that afternoon. Babies are the closest thing we have to heaven. You can feel their sweet spirits. What a blessing Hyrum is in our lives. I’m so excited to be apart of his life and participate in the events to come. Gordon is so excited to be an uncle (although he already was one, he sometimes forgets that because he married into that title). We love you Hyrum!
